Safe Tattoo Removal Methods that Work

Are you trying to get rid off your existing tattoo? You have come to the right place.
We all get buyers’ remorse sometimes. We sit there and realize we should not have spent so much on that car, or that new pair of shoes, or that piece of jewelry. But, while most items can be easily returned or at least sold to regain some of your money, the same cannot be said of tattoos. While I love tattoos, I also acknowledge that a serious amount of thought should be put into getting a tattoo before a person actually decides to get one. Unfortunately, plenty of people decide to rush into getting a tattoo and end up either regretting getting one or they end up regretting the one they got. If you don’t mind having a tattoo and only dislike the look of your current one, then you are in luck because most decent tattoo artists will be able to effectively draw over your old tattoo. These are called cover up tattoos.
However, if you want the tattoo removed from your skin completely, then the process is a lot more complicated. There are a lot of ways of removing a tattoo, from more surgical methods to home remedies; some work and some do not. For example, there was for a long time a myth that salt could be used to help remove tattoos. The idea was that since salt is an abrasive and that if you rubbed it into the tattoo that it would help break down the tattoo particles; it is a complete myth, but some people still believe it works. To help make your life easier, I have compiled a list of tattoo removal methods that actually work.

Laser Tattoo Removal

This is by far the most well-known method of tattoo removal. Laser removal works by using a high-powered laser to break down the ink of the tattoo, where it will then be naturally destroyed by your body’s immune system. A different kind of laser has to be used for each color in the tattoo. Black absorbs the laser the best, which makes the easiest color to get rid of. Other, brighter colors like yellow and green do not absorb the laser as well as other, darker colors. Laser removal cannot be done in one go, you will need to go to multiple sessions to get the tattoo removed completely. The final results also depend on the tattoo. Simple, darker tattoos will be removed easier and the skin will look better after removal. Tattoos with lighter colors will be harder to remove and the skin may not look like it did before the tattoo; the skin may end up looking like it has a healing bruise on it.
The actual process of getting your tattoo removed by a laser is quite simple. You simply show up, the technician will do a few test runs to see what strength laser they need to use on your skin, and then they will start the laser treatment. It will feel uncomfortable, but most people will be able to deal with the feeling without needing anesthesia. Afterward, you will want to make sure you keep an icepack on the site of the tattoo to keep swelling and pain down.
The downsides to laser removal are that there is a possibility of permanent scarring on the area of the tattoo. There is also a strong possibility that the area could become infected after treatment (although the risk of infection can be lowered by the use of antibiotic creams). Finally, laser treatment is not cheap, a single session can run you around $500, now multiply that by the number of sessions you need to go to, and you can easily end up paying $3000-$4000 for laser removal.

IPL therapy for Tattoo Removal

IPL therapy (intense pulsed light therapy) is very similar in concept to laser removal. But, the main difference is that IPL therapy makes use of extremely powerful lighting as opposed to laser technology. In IPL therapy a gel will be applied to the area with the tattoo. A technician will then run a wand over the tattoo. The wand will emit extremely powerful lighting, which will slowly dissipate the tattoo (much like what would happen if you went for laser removal instead). This method has two advantages over laser removal. First off, it is far less painful and will not cause issues like scarring or infections. Secondly, it is a bit more effective than traditional laser treatment.
There are a couple downsides to IPL therapy. Firstly, it is a bit newer than laser treatment, so it can be a bit harder to find locations that do IPL therapy. Secondly, because it is a bit more advanced than laser treatment, it is also much more expensive. You will end up paying at least a couple thousand dollars if not more. Also, much like laser treatment, IPL therapy will require multiple sessions for the tattoo to be completely removed.

Dermabrasion

So, the way tattoos work is that the tattoo artist uses a device with little needs that penetrate your skin and release the ink into the dermal layer of the skin (which is below the first layer of the skin, which is called the epidermis). Dermabrasion is a tattoo removal method wherein the technician will take what is essentially a high-powered brush and use it to sand off the top layer of your skin to get to the tattoo. Once the first layer of skin is removed, then the technician will sand off the layer of skin with the tattoo.
Now, the main positive of this method is that it is much cheaper than either laser removal treatment or IPL therapy. The method is also effective at removing tattoos. But, there are some pretty glaring downsides. Dermabrasion is not exactly precise, meaning it can damage the skin around the tattoo. Also, dermabrasion really opens your skin to infections and scarring because of how rough the process of skin removal is. However, if you want to get a tattoo removed for cheap then dermabrasion is the best choice.

Tattoo removal creams

If you put “tattoo removal options” into Google or another search engine then you are probably going to see advertisements for various kinds of tattoo removal creams. The creams often have acid as an ingredient and produce a minor burning sensation. Most tattoo removal creams claim that their ingredients will slowly break down the ink of the tattoo and eventually will get rid of it entirely. Now, I have to warn you that tattoo removal cream (despite the name) will not remove your tattoo entirely and I will explain why. As I said before, tattoo ink gets deep into your skin and it rests in the layer of skin called the dermis. Now, no tattoo removal cream is going to be powerful enough to penetrate through the epidermis and get into the dermis. If a cream was powerful enough to do that, then it would likely end up giving you third-degree burns and force you to take a trip to the hospital. Often you will see before and after images on the boxes of these creams showing someone’s tattoo completely removed; those images are complete lies.
However, tattoo removal cream is not completely useless. After a few months of use, you will see your tattoo start to fade. But, the cream will not completely remove the ink. So, tattoo removal creams can be a good option if your funds are limited and you cannot afford to go for expensive laser treatment or IPL therapy. If you have the money to go for more expensive treatments, then you can avoid tattoo removal creams.

One response to “Tattoo Removal”

  1. there’s several precautionary measures people could benefit from following a tattoo removal procedure, and it boils down to shielding the area that was lasered from sunburn until it has had time to rebuild sufficiently. Be sure to use sun protection (heavy sunblock), and wear a long sleeve shirt for the next week to ten days following your laser procedures. You will be relieved you thought to do it., and your tattoo will heal much more quickly.
